PROGRAM

Foundamental of Periodontology and Diagnosis

Biological Basis of Periodontal Health and Disease

  • Anatomy of the periodontium: gingiva, periodontal ligament, cementum and alveolar bone
  • Supracrestal tissue attachment and biological width
  • Keratinized tissue: height, thickness and clinical relevance
  • Bundle bone and alveolar bone: biological implications

Periodontal Diseases

  • Etiology and pathogenesis of periodontal diseases
  • Current classification of periodontal diseases
  • Risk factors and disease progression

Periodontal Diagnosis

  • Periodontal probing: technique, parameters and clinical interpretation
  • Clinical attachment level, bleeding on probing and plaque indices
  • Radiographic examination: interpretation of bone defects
  • Prognosis and decision-making in periodontal patients

Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy and Treatment Planning

Causal Periodontal Therapy

  • Objectives and biological rationale of non-surgical therapy
  • Scaling and root planing: principles and techniques
  • Manual and ultrasonic instrumentation
  • Subgingival biofilm control

Clinical Workflow and Maintenance

  • Patient motivation and plaque control
  • Role of the dental hygienist in periodontal therapy
  • Re-evaluation after non-surgical treatment

Periodontal Treatment Planning

  • Indications and limits of non-surgical therapy
  • When and why surgical therapy is indicated
  • Step-by-step periodontal treatment planning
  • play_arrowSurgical technique demonstration through educational videos

Clinical Crown Lengthening and Resective Therapy Approach

Biological and Clinical Foundations

  • Supracrestal tissue attachment and biological width: diagnostic implications
  • Early restorative phase and interdisciplinary planning
  • Indications for clinical crown lengthening in restorative dentistry
  • Diagnosis of altered passive eruption
  • Papilla preservation and interdental tissue management

Indications for Crown Lengthening

  • Crown lengthening for caries and subgingival fractures
  • Prosthetic indications in single teeth
  • Prosthetic indications in multiple teeth
  • Esthetic crown lengthening for gummy smile correction
  • Crown lengthening in the esthetic vs posterior sectors
  • Decision-making: tooth preservation vs extraction

Periodontal Treatment Planning

  • Principles of resective therapy for pocket elimination
  • Osseous resective surgery in natural dentition
  • Osteoplasty and ostectomy: rationale and techniques
  • Distal wedge procedure
  • Apically positioned flap
  • Palatal thinning flap
  • Single-tooth approach
  • Multiple-teeth rehabilitation

Live Surgery Session

2 clinical procedures will be performed:

Periodontal Non-Surgical Therapy

  • Clinical management of periodontal pockets with advanced non-surgical instrumentation and tissue response evaluation.

Clinical Crown Lengthening with Resective Therapy

  • Flap design, osseous recontouring, and apical repositioning for predictable restorative and periodontal outcomes.

Hands- Non-Surgical to Resective Surgical Approach

Hands-On Focus

Participants will work on models to explore and practice key concepts related to the transition from non-surgical periodontal therapy to surgical intervention, as well as the execution of resective procedures and clinical crown lengthening.

Core Topics Addressed During the Hands-On

  • Flap design for pocket reduction
  • Access for root debridement under direct vision
  • Biological principles of osseous resective surgery
  • Osteoplasty and selective ostectomy concepts
  • Bone recontouring for pocket elimination
  • Clinical crown lengthening strategies
  • Management of supracrestal tissue attachment
  • Apically positioned flap principles
  • Tissue stabilization and wound management
  • Basic suturing techniques and flap stability
